I came to the realization that I had a problem with staying at a job for more than 6 months. I would come in to work every day, learn the job, and about 6 months later I would be sitting there bored and wondering why they didn’t do things a certain way to make the business more efficient.
I tried working everywhere from door to door sales, fast food, shipping companies and at one point I was even an O.T.R. truck driver!
Eventually, I would find another job and move on because being inefficient wasn’t me!

In 2008, I started working as a freelancer for a locksmith company and I learned the job quickly. One day, I decided that I would like to open my own business, so I started my locksmith business. Through that, I gained valuable experience and learned how to advertise and get leads.
I decided one day after I received an offer to sell the business that I would look into advertising for something similar to emergency service advertising. That's how I came up with the idea to open a towing company.
Never stop investing in your business - both in your processes, tools, and in your people. It’s important to keep your reputation in good standing too. And never stop investing in yourself.

I am 43 years old, born in Kingston, Jamaica. I migrated to this country when I was 8 years old. I take pride in saying that I’m a product of the NYC school system and a graduate of St. John’s University. I am married and have 2 children, Abigail 8 and Alex 4.
There was no plan B, C or even Z. What I knew for sure that I was not going back to work for anyone but myself as I enjoyed the freedom that being an entrepreneur afforded me to spend with my now 1 year old daughter.
I didn’t come up with the idea of starting Best Deal, but opted to purchase it to grow it into a successful business. The journey from IT Director of a global company to the owner of a car service (taxi company) with 35 drivers went something like this. My best friend of over 35 years, David called me one day and said that the agency that he works for has started to move routes (trips) away from 8 passenger buses to 4 passenger sedans. Doesn’t your friend own a car service he said. Yes he does I said, then you should buy it. After about a year of hearing what I should do, I decided to check it out myself.

My passion for trucks started way before I could even drive. I always wanted to have a huge lifted truck and I loved the idea of driving a vehicle that could make it through conditions that most vehicles couldn’t such as a deep ditch full of water or 3 feet of snow! My grandfather willed me one of his trucks so when I was 16 years old I was blessed to now have his old truck as my own! It was completely bone stock with not a single modification done to it….YET! Over the years I saved pretty much every penny I made at my minimum wage jobs and invested it all into building my truck up to be the beast that it is today!
These before and after pictures below are almost 6 years apart!
6. Start a moving company ($1.38M/year)
Max Maher from Chandler, Arizona, USA started Skinny Wimp Moving about 5 years ago, a moving company.

Founders: 2
Employees: 40
Location: Chandler, Arizona, USA
I didn’t exactly come up with the initial idea for this company because this is a franchise which means for me that I license out the name “Skinny Wimp Moving”. However, because it was the first franchise location I was able to be in a prime decision-making seat and guinea pig for all ideas enabling me to test out theories on marketing and customer service which have no become standard across the brand.
Put yourself out there and ask for their business. Sure be conscious that you may get rejected but don’t be afraid to ask more than once. It won’t work every time but it will work 100% more than not trying at all.
We realized people simply don’t want a moving company that sucks. So we asked ourselves what can we do to make the stressful experience of moving suck a little less and the answers we came up with and stuck to were very common sense:
